HISTORY OF LOURDES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – PARK

History of School and Community

Upon petition of a majority of the voters in the areas affected in the creation of a new barangay, the members of the Provincial Board of Tarlac, upon re-commendation of at least two-thirds of the entire membership of the Municipal Council of Bamban, Tarlac unanimously approved the creation of barangay “Lourdes” named after the Lady of Lourdes shrine (Grotto) at the eastern slope of Mt. Tandiwa, on July 22, 1966.

The people of Barangay Lourdes, can’t find words to extend their profound gratitude to Governor Arsenio Lugay, for the construction of the Grotto, a viable and monumental project, in cooperation of Mrs. Concepcion T. Yap, donor of the site of the Grotto, including the stairways, parking space and the roads leading to the shrine. The Grotto almost on the top of Mt. Tandiwa in overlooking the Clark Air Base, Barangays Tabun and Dolores of Mabalacat, Pampanga, the town of Bamban, Tarlac, as far as the Voice of America Transmittal Station and Concepcion, Tarlac. Motorists are going to the Grotto to pay a good glimpse of the shrine and for a short prayer.

Prior to the construction of the Magsaysay Type Two-Room Prefab. School-building and the school buildings adjoining both sides of said school-building, the Grade I class under classroom Teacher Miss Ofelia P. Go was accommodated on the ground floor of the residence of Mr. Gregorio Santos, another Grade I class under the classroom teacher Mrs. Amancia G. Lugtu and Grade II class under classroom teacher Mrs. Rifina G. Reyes, were accommodated on the ground floor of the residence of Mr. Agustin Galang.

The Barangay Council of Barangay Lourdes, in cooperation of the classroom teachers of the Lourdes Primary School, organized the Parents Teachers Association, of said school and called for an electionof its officers with the election of Mr. Antonio Castro as President, Mrs. Lucia B. Tanglao as Vice-President, Messrs. Antonio Jacobe, Lazaro David, Maximiano Yabut, Mariano C. Guevarra, and Mrs. Isabel D. Visda and Erlinda Managuilod, all as Board of Directors; Miss. Ofelia P. Go, as Secretary, Mrs. Amancia G. Lugtu as Treasurer; Mrs. Rufina G. Reyes as Auditor, Municipal Councilor Jose Lumboy and Municipal Judge Pompeyo S. Tiglao, as Advisers.

The recreation of Lourdes Elementary School-Park was made 1994 which is started with six rooms with the use of the bunkhouse catering the needs of the pupils. Later on, in 2004, it expanded when San Roque National High School-Annex moved to its main campus. The school was first handled by Ms. Adelaida Navarro as the head teacher, leading and supervising six faculty member. It was then followed by ESHT-III, Rosalinda S. Cayanan, which was later on promoted to ESP-I (2005-2010). the number of teachers doubled as the number of enrolment. During that period, that was the time when the first ESC class was conducted. Remarkable changes and improvement have also been noted during the time of Mrs. Teresita V. Guilas, ESP-II (2011-2013) and Mrs. Baby Liza F. Nacpil, ESP-II (2011-2013). Nowadays the progress of the school can be seen through the effort and generosity of time by the assigned school principal, Mr. Romel C. Melendez (2014-present)
